Spintunes #17 Round 3--Coming or Going: Write a song involving palindromes. (Revised notes)
I almost bowed out of this one--I'm not as good at "structure" songs as I am at "theme" songs. But as soon as I started toying with words, I got a bit hooked.
I opted to have each verse read the same forwards and backwards--word-for-word (letter-for-letter would have driven me insane).
One of the things I noticed was that if I could find words that acted as more than one part of speech, I could have distinct meanings in the first and second halves of the verses. Words like "reason," "trust," "fractured" and "question" gave me a lot more flexibility when looking for multiple connotations.
I found that other phrases like "all is good," or "There isn't peace," reversed, could be used to supplement natural sounding verses, as well: "What good is all that trust," and "Peace isn't there."
Finally, I took a hint from known letter palindromes like "Was it a car or a cat I saw." Letters from "it a car" were used backwards for "cat." I tried taking parts of different lines and constructing a completely different sentence with a different meaning as such:
Your fractured disenchantment
Sold you
You sold disenchantment,
Fractured your reflection
Nothing came easy, but it was like working a sudoku--very mathematical.
Even though I'll probably revisit this to find more fluid words and phrases, I am happy with how this turned out for the challenge.

LYRICS
I am so ordinary
Are you that crestfallen
That you are ordinary
So am I
There isn’t peace when
You refuse to care
I don’t care to refuse you
When peace isn’t there
You don’t listen
To reason beyond perception,
Your muddied promises
Broke you
You broke promises,
Muddied your perception
Beyond reason to listen,
Don’t you?
CHORUS:
So think clearly,
I trust that all is good
What wonder will you know
I know you will wonder
What good is all that trust
I clearly think so
Why question every measure
You made that spectacle that
Made you measure every
Question why
You won’t listen
To reason beyond reflection,
Your fractured disenchantment
Sold you
You sold disenchantment,
Fractured your reflection
Beyond reason to listen,
Won’t you?
Chorus:
Backwards and forwards
Stumbling answers
Nothing fits, nothing
Answers stumbling
Forwards and backwards
