about
Spintunes Challenge: Write a song about a secret.
I chose to write about a guy from the mob who gets nabbed and is about to be questioned by a couple of savage cops. His problem is not divulging the mafia's "secrets" while being thoroughly interrogated.
Instead of telling the listener what the specific secret is, I chose to focus on the *not* telling (though mafia secrets are all pretty much the same, eh?)
Wasn't really sure what to do with the ending, and still kinda think the time signature doesn't work quite right in the second half - feels a bit more rushed than when I play it just with guitar, as if I should add an extra 1/8 beat between lyrics or something. Nevertheless, it was a fun one to write and record.
lyrics
Don’t say anything
Not a single peep
Just keep it buried deep
Not a word to anybody
They’ll try to get you rattled
There’s nothing you can’t handle
A secret’s only as good as it can keep
You know too well what happens
when one’s loyalty runs thin
Just remember eyes are everywhere
Don’t say anything
I have no idea
I have not one
I’ll take the consequences
You may drag me away
You can break my legs
You can keep my eyes from seeing
You can tie my hands behind my back
You can cause my vertebrae to crack
You can put cement around my socks
You can do whatever
I won’t talk
And I will walk...
I don’t know what you want
That’s all I know
You’re going to have to believe me
You can hobble my feet
You can pull my teeth
You can keep my lungs from breathing
You can tie my hands behind my back
You can cause my vertebrae to crack
You can put cement around my socks
You can do whatever
I won’t talk
The walls are closing
My will is broken
The book is open
I’m telling all that I know
There's only so much one can take
